The Kapil Sharma Show is an Indian stand-up comedy in Hindi broadcasted on Sony TV. The series premiered on 23rd April and the talk television revolves around Kapil Sharma and his neighbors living in the Shantivan Non-cooperative Housing Society and it has received a huge popularity from the audience and the show has also been able to gain top TRP ratings. Each episode of the show features different Bollywood celebrities and most of the celebrities promote their upcoming release. Before The Kapil Sharma Show, the host Kapil Sharma was in a contract with Colors TV for the show Comedy Nights with Kapil. Development began after a newspaper reported that Kapil had decided to end his Comedy Night with Kapil series and might move to a different channel as he was unhappy with Colors TV. Kapil had made a name for himself in Comedy Nights with Kapil and became extremely popular for his jokes.
After issues with Colors TV, Kapil decided that he would start a new stand-up show with similar content in a different channel. Later it was confirmed that the show will be broadcasted on Sony TV. Firstly, the show was reported to be titled Comedy Style but the press conference confirmed that the show will be titled The Kapil Sharma Show as Kapil is extremely popular and the market research also showed that the audience wanted Kapil wala show. After this the show was tited The Kapil Sharma Show. The format of the show was similar to Comedy Nights with Kapil and it revolved around Kapil Sharma. The other cast of the show included comedians like Kiku Sharda, Sunil Grover, Sumona Chakravati and Chandan Prabhakar.
Most of the comedians were a part of the previous Comedy Nights with Kapil show. These comedians played the residents of the Shantivan Non-cooperative Housing Society and the show had Navjot Singh Sidhu as the judhge who is famous for his one liners as well as Sher O Shayaris. The show featured Bollywood as well as other celebrities who would join the talk show to promote their films. Kapil Sharma and his team promoted the show before the release and performed in various cities which included Delhi, Lucknow, Bhopal promoting the show.
The producers invested 50 Lakh rupees in the shows promotion and also held a contest on 1st March 2016 called Kapil Se Mil which gave the audience to meet Kapil. The first episode premiered on 23rd April 2016 and was shot in front of a live audience in Delhi. The show was originally scheduled for 26 episodes only but was later extended indefinitely. The first episode had Shahrukh Khan as the guest who was in the show to promote his film Fan. The show had guests from all sections of the society that included celebrities like Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, cricketer Dwayne Bravo, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, A.R Rahman, the complete cast of the movie Sairat etc.According to the reports published by the Broadcast Audience Research Council, the shows first episode generated 8,943 responses and many people were happy to see the old cast of Comedy Nights with Kapil to be back in action.
The shows 16th episode featuring Sairat team had good ratings and was the number one show in the non-fiction category.
